History
The World’s Biggest Fish Fry in Paris, Tennessee, has a rich history dating back to 1938, when it began as Mule Day. Farmers from across the region would gather in town on the first Monday of April to trade mules, shop, and socialize. In the early 1950s, as tractors replaced mules, the Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce sought a new event to take its place. In 1961, the Paris-Henry County Jaycees took over the event, significantly expanding it. What started with 1,600 pounds of catfish grew to over five tons, along with a two-hour grand parade and a week-long celebration. Under the Jaycees’ leadership, the event evolved into a nationally recognized festival, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
