Sanitation – Residential

As of May 6, 2013, the City Ordinance regarding garbage has changed to curbside pick-up. This means your trash will need to be placed within 3 feet of the curb or edge of the street. It must be out by 7:00 a.m. on your pick-up day and must not be out longer than 24 hours before that day.

Residential sanitation will be picked up 4 days per week – Monday through Thursday. If you aren’t sure which day your street gets picked up, contact the public works dept. at 731-642-0473.

The current rate for garbage pick-up is $16.00 per month and is added to your utility bill from the Board of Public Utilities.

The City will pick up household garbage only on their regular sanitation route.

The City now offers bulk pickup on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month. Residents with bulk pickup items should contact Public Works at 731-642-0473 to be placed on the  pickup list and given instructions on how to separate the items. Residents  will be instructed to put their bulk items on the curb for pickup, but may place them at the curb no sooner than Thursday afternoon prior to the pickup day, but no later than 7:00 a.m. on Friday the day of pickup.  Additionally, Public Works will give instructions on how to separate items.  Things such as appliances, construction material, furniture, metal, etc. are disposed of in different areas of the landfill.  Tires and hazardous materials will not be accepted.

Boxes must be broken down in order to be picked up.

Hazardous materials such as paint cans, chemicals,  and automotive oils, or an excessive amount of boxes should be taken to the Henry County Recycling Center located at 450 Recycling Dr.

All garbage must be bagged – we will not pick up loose trash.

You may have up to ten bags of garbage per week. Each bag must not exceed 50 lbs.

Residents that are handicapped and unable to bring their garbage to the curb are required to send the Public Works Dept. a doctor’s excuse stating that they are not able to. If the resident is the only occupant of the house, we will pick up no more than 2 bags per week at the front of the resident’s home. If a household has other members living there that are not handicapped, the garbage must be brought to the curb.

The City of Paris does not furnish garbage cans. It is the resident’s responsibility to obtain a garbage can if they wish to have one. Garbage cans are not required, but are recommended to prevent animals from digging into trash.
