Behind the Scenes of Your City

The City of Paris Citizens Academy is a free, hands-on program that gives participants an inside look at how city government operates and how services are delivered. Through tours, demonstrations, and interactive discussions, participants will learn how departments work together and how residents can get involved in shaping their community.


Program Details

The Citizens Academy is a 6-week program held on Monday evenings from 5 to 7 PM. The program is free to participate in and is designed to provide an accessible, engaging learning experience for community members interested in understanding how city government works.

Session Dates:
March 23 • March 30 • April 6 • April 13 • April 20 • April 27

Graduation Ceremony:
Thursday May 7 at a City Commission Meeting


Session Overview

Government 101 & General Administration – City structure, budgeting, decision-making, and resident engagement

Public Safety – Paris Police Department, Paris Fire Department, & Dispatch

Animal Control & Shelter Services – Shelter operations, animal control, and volunteer opportunities

Streets, Sanitation & Public Works – Infrastructure, sanitation services, and equipment

Planning, Zoning, Building & Codes – Growth, zoning, boards and commissions, and stormwater

Parks, Recreation & Community Events – Parks, facilities, events, and community impact
